Meddling vs. Caring

“Go To Phrases”

“I know that you know yourself best, so what do you think is best for you right now?”

By acknowledging that your loved one is intelligent and the “best for the job,” they start acting like it own their own. Asking them questions about what they think will get them thinking. The more they think for themselves about what is best for them, the more time you have to spend caring for them and for yourself. Is continuing to meddle in the lives of others really the best thing for you right now?

“I know that you are a very good decision maker, and whatever decision you make will be the right decision for you.”

1. Now you’ve just boosted the other person’s confidence.

2. You’ve taken the burden and worry off of them and their ability to make good decisions.

3. You’ve also put their problems back in their hands, so you don’t have to carry them.
